MASTER’S PROGRAMME IN INDOOR ARCHITECTURE           (Without Thesis)

 

 

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

 

Interior architecture is defined as a profession which is qualified withprofessional-level training, experience andexaminationsto improve the quality and the efficiency ofhumanlife with enriching andraisingthe qualityof the interiorin order toensure health, safetyandhappiness ofthe user.(CIDA) Today,the building sector is rapidly changingwith the development ofcomputer technologies, globalizationandconcepts ofsustainability. Depending on these globalchanges, the profession ofinterior architecturealsorequiresnewexpertise.

 

In this contextMaster ofInterior ArchitectureProgram located within the Graduate School of Scienceand Engineering conductstwo programs with thesis and without thesisin order to ensurestudentsadvance their knowledgein their fields, and transfer theirknowledge andskills tothe production ofinteriorarchitecture. Program without thesismainly focuses on design projectsandis completed with agraduation project study.This programaims studentsto transform theoretical knowledge to profession practice efficiently and to be competent at indoor design. Program also promotes and encouragesthe development ofindividual, community andenvironmentalsensitivitywith critical andfreethinking at all stages ofeducation.

 

Master Degree is an important step for individuals who wish to maintain their professional development and academic career. As the profession of Interior Architecture is an intersection of art, design and technical issues, student candidates should have desire to specialize in these areas and possession of professional vision throughout their lives.

To redound master degree certification by training professionals who poses the professional vision of Interior Architecture, adopt innovative design concept, have problem solving ability and sufficient technical basics to realize design studies with systematical way of thinking, have sense to social requirements, enhance environmental awareness, can make team work and fallow contemporary developments.

Our vision is to be the center of application and theoretical studies which contribute to interior architecture as being a program which is highly recognized in national and international platforms and chosen primarily by our education quality that emprises on  free and critical way of thinking, sensitivity to global developments in the areas of society, science and art.

 


 

ACQUIRED DEGREE

Students, who successfully complete the program, are entitled to Master’s degree in Science.

 

 

ACQUIRED LEVEL OF QUALIFICATION

It is a program that provides graduate education at Second Cycle level.

ACQUIRED DEGREE REQUIREMENTS AND RULES

Students studying master's with thesis are required:

·         To take 10 courses (36 local credits) and enroll in and Graduate Project, and complete 120 ECTS. (The Graduate Project do not have local credit and are assessed with a pass or fail).

·         To get at least a grade of DD in order to be successful in each course of the program,

·         To have 2.50 general average grades out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis defense.

 

DESCRIPTION OF PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

A student who is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, may transfer to the Master's Program at Maltepe University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of The Graduate School of Scienceand Engineering. The decision taken will also include eligibility for exemption from some course requirements of the graduate program. Students who transfer from another university must be successful in the Maltepe University English Proficiency Exam or in an equivalent English examination.

 

Graduates from other disciplines are accepted to the program provided they take undergraduate courses to make them ready to take graduate courses.   

 

Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning will also be considered although rules and regulations are not yet adequately developed in Turkish Higher Education System.

 

 

THE DEFINITION OF THE PROGRAM

Master of Interior Architecture aims student’s to develop professional information both universal and mental extent and produce new knowledge with interdisciplinary interaction. The program also promotes students to associate this information with interior architecture production by aesthetic and ethical concerns and overseeing society and the environment.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE OF GRADUATES

The graduates of of Scienceand Engineering Master’s program have a full knowledge of the existing theoretical and substantive academic literature and as they are committed to lifelong learning they will have access to national and international periodical journals, have experience in sociology research methodology and report writing and have the motivation and opportunity to publish findings in accordance with academic principles and ethical values.

 

The Graduates of Scienceand Engineering Master’s program find employment in such institutions and work places as Ministry of Education, Universities, Ministry of Agriculture and Village affairs, Statistics Institution of Turkey, State Planning Office, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Research Institutions and Firms, TVs, Newspapers, NGOs.

 

 

TRANSFER TO A HIGHER STAGE

The students who graduated from School of Scienceand Engineering Master’s program may apply to study in Ph.D. programs (third cycle) in the same field or other fields.

 

 

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Graduate School of Scienceand Engineering Master’s Program (without thesis option) has compulsory graduate project and 10 courses, 2 of which are compulsory and 8 elective adding up to  36 local credits  and 120 ECTS; Graduate Project is 30 ECTS credits.

EXAMS, EVALUATION AND GRADING

Exams

Students take at least one quiz, one mid-term or a project and an end of term exam whose number is determined by the instructor.

 

Students are informed beforehand about the mid-term exam dates and the subjects that the students will be responsible for. The numbers and dates of mid-term exams are announced by the instructor at the beginning of the semester. Mid-terms are given during the pre-determined hours for that course. Excuses of those students who have not taken the mid-term exam or taken part in studies are evaluated by the instructor, and the procedure is determined by the board of management of the institute.

 

In end of term exams, student’s knowledge and performance in that semester is tested, and they are extremely significant in evaluation of student’s success. To what extent this exam affects the student’s success is determined by the instructor and is announced at the beginning of the term. Starting and finishing dates of end of term exams are determined by senate and can be seen in academic calendar published at the beginning of the term.

 

Excuses of those students who have not taken the mid-term exam are evaluated by the board management of institute. Providing that the documents proving the excuses are admitted, excuse exam dates are announced.

 

Evaluation and Grading

Instructors evaluate each registered student by taking quiz, mid-term exam and final exam results, and the studies that substitute exams into consideration. As a result of the evaluation, s/he appreciates one of the grades below as the student's final grade.

AA, BA, BB, CB and CC mean that the course has been completed successfully. DC and DD grades show that the course has been completed successfully providing that the student has fulfilled the requirements depending on grade average point which was specified in the regulations. Grade F shows that the student has been unsuccessful. Even if the grade average point of a student who has got an F grade is enough to be considered as successful, this course is retaken. The letter grades specified above are based on evaluations of midterm and final exams and papers written by the students. Final grades are given on the basis of normal distribution of scores in the class. However, these letter grades are considered to correspond to the following intervals out of a hundred: AA 90-100; BA 85-89; BB 80-84; CB 75-79; CC 70-74; DC 60-69; DD 50-59; F 49 and below.

 

Special condition of students in a course is shown with the letters below:

In a condition of incompleteness resulting from the student, the instructor takes valid excuses into consideration and wants that student to compensate those imperfections. Providing that the imperfections are not compensated maximum in two weeks after passing grades are announced, the mark of incomplete, changes to an F grade.

Successful Students

Students are regarded as successful according to their General Average Grade. In order to be graduated as successful, students have to have 2.50 General Average Grade in a Master's program.

 

Students who graduate from their departments or complete their programs with 3.50-4.00 General Average Grade are appreciated as University high honor students and they are on the list of University Honor Students List.
